WORLD HOLY NAME WEEK
September 28th till October 7th

"The nectar of congregational chanting of the Holy Name will drown the entire universe in waves of bliss and every house will know the process of love of Krishna. (Ch. Bhag. Ch. 2)

"Therefore I order every man within this universe to accept this Krishna consciousness movement and distribute it everywhere. (C.C Adi Lila 9.36)

“To teach and encourage the sankirtana movement, congregational chanting of the holy name of God, as revealed in the teachings of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu” Srila Prabhupada’s purposes of ISKCON in 1966).

With the intention to work towards fulfilling Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya’s objectives mentioned above, it was resolved by the GBC in 2007:
“That World Holy Name Day (extended to Week in the 2008 GBC meeting) is made an annual programme for all ISKCON centers The observance of World Holy Name Day is to be held in connection with the anniversary observances of Srila Prabhupada’s arrival in the USA Sept. 17, 1965.( GBC resolution 2006)

In many parts of the world this time period includes the appearance day of Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura, the disappearance day of Srila Namacarya Haridas Thakura and of course Srila Prabhupada’s arrival in Boston. Although the period is around 10 days the idea is that temples, communities and devotees, no matter who we are or where we are, endeavor to chant more and more during this time - all over the world. Particularly it is encouraged that devotees set aside at least one day, or more, for continuous chanting in public, at home, or in the temple. Wherever is practical. Some temples celebrate for the whole period with more japa, bhajan, kirtan, nagar sankirtan, festivals, glorification of the Holy names, internet preaching, etc. – so many ways to participate in and spread the holy names. If the chanting is not continuous, then at least chant as much as possible. If there is no community you can chant alone.

“All over the world, our only means is to chant Hare Krishna mantra........So you stick to this principle, go on chanting Hare Krishna mantra anywhere it is possible, and you’ll be victorious. That is the blessings of Caitanya Mahäprabhu. Believe in it and you’ll be successful. ( N.O.D., Nov 1, 1972)
